Eric Capers is attempting to change careers recently from being a technology instructor to becoming a real estate salesperson. He recently complete an online course for real estate sales and plans to take the Pennsylvania Real Estate Sales exam in the near future. Real Estate Update

On May 19th, Eric passed all the required test to become a real estate agent in Pennsylvania. Now He would like to thank http://www.realestateexpress.com for their support in preparation for the exams. If you are the type of person that does well with online courses. Eric recommends Real Estate Express. Eric has to interview with various real estate brokers to determine which one will be the best mutual fit. Eric will keep you posted.

Another Update: In December 2018, I changed brokers again. I am now an agent for eXp Realty. EXP Realty is a cloud based real estate broker and agents have the opportunity to purchase stock and become agent-owners. I decided to change brokers after my previous broker dissolved and one of the partners started a new broker office. I had mixed feelings about leaving because the person I interacted with started a new office and our professional relationship was amicable, but the person that recruited me went to eXp and I followed out of a sense of loyalty.

If you don’t know about the commission structure in real estate, let me explain how it works:

Most new agents start off with a 50/50 split and get trained by a mentor. When I was starting out with Century 21, I had a 50/50 split, and my mentor got a portion of my 50 percent. In most of these situations, the new agent doesn’t pay any monthly fee. After a sales track record, most agents negotiate for a higher percentage and/or are offered a higher percentage. My new broker (eXp Realty) charges a monthly fee, but they offer an 80/20 split. If you work the numbers, you can see how a high-volume agent makes more money with an 80/20 split, but if you are part-time no monthly fee works out better for you. I am part-time, but I hope to become a full-time agent-investor in the near future.Investing in real estate is something I want to blog about in the near future, so look out for a bunch of new blogs on the topic…..
